US man gets coronavirus for 2nd time in a row, a 1st for the country

A 25-year-old man from Nevada, Texas in the US has become the first person in the US to get infected with the coronavirus twice. According to reports, the news has left scientists baffled, especially considering he had no underlying conditions and was in good health before catching the dreadful virus.
The news was first revealed in a study filed by the Lancet Infectious Diseases journal after the man had caught the virus twice on two different occasions. According to the study, the second strand proved to be much harsher, resulting in the man experiencing much worse symptoms of the deadly virus.
While it was previously thought that once one had got the virus once you would be immune thereafter, scientists have now advised even those who have already caught the virus and recovered from it still practice all the necessary safety measures.
“It also strongly suggests that individuals who have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 should continue to take serious precautions when it comes to the virus, including social distancing, wearing face masks and handwashing,” said lead author Mark Pandori of the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory.

Meanwhile, The Guardian also reported that four other similar harrowing cases of people catching the virus twice were previously reported around the world, namely Belgium, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Ecuador.

Australian researchers have discovered that the Covid-19 virus can survive on banknotes, glass and stainless steel for up to 28 days. The results of the study done by the country's national science agency CSIRO were released on Monday, showing that the virus had remained infections for far longer than previously thought in a controlled environment.
At around 20°C, the Covid-19 virus had remained infectious for nearly a month on surfaces like banknotes and even the glass of a mobile phone screen. The findings were published in the Virology Journal with lead researcher Shane Riddell commenting:
"It really reinforces the importance of washing hands and sanitising where possible and certainly wiping down surfaces that may be in contact with the virus."
