Akufo-Addo's secretary 'cut' budget for judiciary, legislature without his knowledge - Majority Leader

- Speaker Alban Bagbin threatened to reject the 2021 budget

- This was because the presidency slashed the estimates by the Judiciary and the Legislator

- There has been a Ghs77million and over Ghs119million slash in the estimates

Secretary to President Akufo-Addo, Nana Asante Bediatuo unilaterally wrote the letter slashing the budget estimates for the legislature and the Judiciary, Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu disclosed.

“…On account of what had been happening earlier, the Secretary wrote the letter,” the Majority Leader told Joy News.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, had threatened not to send the appropriation bill to the president for his assent when passed if discussions are not done to find a common ground over the decision by the presidency to reduce the budget of Legislature and the Judiciary.

There has been a Ghs77million and over Ghs119million slash in the estimates presented by the Judiciary and Judicial Service and the Legislator respectively.

According to the presidency, the decision to slash the estimates was necessitated by the country’s current economic challenges.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who’s also the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in an earlier YEN.com.gh report, called the bluff of the Speaker after he threatened to reject the 2021 budget.

He said the Speaker does not have the authority to carry out his threat.

In other news on YEN.com.gh, singer and political activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as APlus expressed grave doubts over President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to the fight against corruption.

According to him, the president’s attitude towards anti-corruption campaigners like former Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo and former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu is unfortunate.

“When President Akufo-Addo admonished that we should be citizens and not spectators, I thought the messiah had arrived.

But, I no longer believe he's the messiah. He fights anybody who is fighting corruption,” APlus said on Starr FM’s Starr Chat on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

He said but for the bad counseling he is getting from those around him, Akufo-Addo would have been a “fantastic” president.

APlus continued that the president is no more the “I believe in Ghana person” because he spent years fighting people fighting corruption.
