I advised Akuapem Poloo to change plea from not guilty to guilty because our case was bad - Lawyer

Andrew Kudzo Vortia, the lawyer for actress, Rosemond Brown, widely known as Akuapem Poloo, says the latter’s case before the court was bad.

In view of that, Vortia explained the actress was advised to plead guilty.

“When we were at the case management case stage, we evaluated all the evidence against her (pictorial) in the witness statement and we realized that we don’t have a good case,” Vortia told the media.

Vortia said the sentence would have been “harsher” had the case went to full trial and she was found guilty.

Vortia argued that the actress’ plea change from not guilty to guilty played a critical role in mitigating a harsher punishment.

On Wednesday, April 14, Poloo was convicted by an Accra Circuit Court after she pleaded guilty to the charges of publishing obscene material with two counts of domestic violence over posting a nude photo of her son in 2020.

She was sentenced to three months in jail for those charges on Friday, April 16.

According to a TV3 report, before handing the sentence, Christina Cann, the judge of the Accra Circuit court that handled the case highlighted her worry about the proliferation of nude photos and video on social media.

She expressed hope that the sentence of Poloo will serve as a deterrent to people who engaged in such activities.

In a related development, a throwback video of the time Akuapem Poloo's loving mother sang and danced to Running by Chike for her daughter has popped up after the former's sentencing.

The video sighted by YEN.com.gh on social media showed the actress and her look-alike mother standing in what looked like their living room.

The throwback video follows the trending news of Akuapem Poloo's sentencing which took place today, April 16, 2021. After the court sat on the matter, it was decided that the Efiewura actress was to spend some 90 days behind bars after she posted some obscene content on social media.
