PY Addo Boateng Denies Claims The Miss Universe Ghana Was Rigged

TV and Radio personality, PY Addo Boateng, who is also a member of the Miss Universe Ghana board, has denied widespread claims that the 2015 Miss Universe Ghana pageant was rigged to hand-pick 25-year old Hilda Akua Frimpong as winner.

An email correspondence between two Miss Universe Ghana organizers, Ellen Osei and Roberta Annan discussing strategies to have the ‘pageant princess’ emerge as a winner has been leaked to the media but according to Mr Addo Boateng, the emails are not real.  The leaked documents also included a contract requiring Hilda Akua Frimpong to pay 10,000 USD for the crown.

In an interview with Starr FM, PY Addo Boateng said he was not aware of any such communications between his sister, Roberta Annan and Ellen Osei. According to PY, the Miss Universe Ghana organization held a pageant to select a winner who met the requirements of the judges and the processes. He also said he had no idea of Hilda paying any amount to win the pageant insisting that the Miss Universe Ghana organization is passionate in helping young women.

PY justified his claims by adding that when some contestants lose in such competitions, there is always a level of bitterness and they end up saying things that are false.  According to him, this year’s competition was to bring Ghanaians who live outside of the country to participate more.

Meanwhile, yen.com.gh sources have hinted that the organizers of the pageant are wanted by the police for not settling their debt with Alisa Hotel - the venue for the Miss Universe Ghana finals.  According to the source, their cheque ‘bounced’ when the hotel tried to clear payment.
