Chelsea Suffer Blow as Key Player Gets Suspended in Huge Win Over Tottenham
- Chelsea will miss a key player for their next Premier League assignment against Brentford this coming Sunday
- The Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3, but that came at a cost after their dependable winger earned a suspension
- Chelsea are the club with the most yellow cards this season, with two players having already served their suspensions
Chelsea rallied from behind to record another memorable win on December 8 at the home of their London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues conceded twice in the opening 11 minutes but maintained their composure to win 4-3, to rubberstamp their credentials as one of the title favourites this season.
Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez scored a goal apiece to add to a brace of Cole Palmer's penalties.
The win took Chelsea to 31 points after 15 games, four behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less after their Merseyside derby on Saturday was postponed.
However, despite the win, Enzo Maresca suffered a blow as winger Pedro Neto picked up a yellow card in the 85th minute in the North London clash.
Why Pedro Neto will be suspended vs Brentford
Neto was booked for a foul on Destiny Udogie, bringing his tally of yellow cards this season to five. Premier League rules dictate that a player will be banned for one game if they rack up five yellow cards in the first 19 games of the season.
Therefore, the Portuguese winger will be unavailable for selection when Chelsea welcome Brentford to Stamford Bridge next week. He could play against Astana in the Conference League on Thursday, however, as yellow cards are not transferrable to another competition.
Noni Madueke will be in line to start against the Bees next weekend, a week after Maresca criticised his training.
Which Chelsea player is close to a suspension?
Chelsea's discipline has been an issue this season. Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have already served their suspensions, while Nicolas Jackson and Robert Sanchez are one booking away from getting a one-game ban.
Chelsea coach gives reason why they are not in title race
YEN.com.gh reported that Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca dismissed talks of his team being title contenders despite their dramatic comeback win against Tottenham.
He highlighted one key factor to explain why the Blues are not yet in the race for the Premier League crown.
