Five-Storey Building At Awoshie Collapses Nearly Killing Family

A five-storey building belonging to the Fruit of Christ Church in Awoshie, a surburb of Accra collapsed into a family house adjacent to the building.

Head of the family which narrowly escaped the disaster, 45-year-old Daniel Okina recounted that the concrete slab from the collapsed storey building landed in his bedroom while his children were watching television in the living room.

Residents are therefore blaming the accident on shoddy construction works as they report the landlord failed to seek the services of experts in the construction of the building stating they barely feel safe over the unfortunate event.

In the meantime officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) have begun investigations into circumstances leading to the collapse of the building as the landlord of the building is feared to be on the run.
