These are the dirtiest places in Accra
It is no surprise that Accra remains one of Africa's most beautiful cities. Ironically, the beauty of Ghana's capital city of Accra remains tainted as the millennium city keeps suffering the effect(s) of poor sanitation. Here is a list of the dirtiest places in Accra.
Sodom and Gomorrah
Not far from the central district of Accra, Sodom and Gomorrah, which until recently remains Ghana's largest slum has always been the epicenter of journalism awards. Not just a rubbish dump, Sodom and Gomorrah stays as the worst hit location whenever during the outbreak of non-communicable diseases as cholera.
Old Fadama
Visit the Accra district of Old Fadama on a 3-hour walking tour, and learn about the communities who live and work in one of the city’s most deprived places. The stench and mess is just unbearable.
Glefe
Glefe is one of the newest slums in Accra today. Located along the Pambros River, Glefe always falls victim to Ghana's worst flooding situation especially due to the overcrowding and poor building layouts. You dare not live in such an area!
Lavenda Hill
Lavenda Hill is a venue located at Jamestown in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana where the Accra Metropolitan Assembly disposes liquid waste directly into the sea (Atlantic Ocean). The AMA tried shutting down the site in 2012 but failed.
