COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has gone viral after a video of him dancing in excitement surfaced online. The video surfaced following his appointment as Ghana’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

In the video, which was shared on TikTok, Yohuno was dressed in traditional cloth and slippers, jumping and moving joyfully. His dance moves has amused many social media users.

President John Dramani Mahama appointed COP Yohuno as IGP, replacing Dr George Akuffo Dampare, who has been removed from office. The decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting the change and others questioning the move.

Christian Tetteh Yohuno's profile

Just like his predecessor, COP Yohuno brings a wealth of experience to the IGP role having previously served as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations following his appointment by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in July 2024.

Over the years, he has held positions such as Director-General in charge of different portfolios including Administration, Special Duties, Motor Traffic and Transport, Police Intelligence Directorate, Special Operations, and General Operations.

He started his career as a recruit in 1985 and rose through the ranks to the top. His leadership in the service started in 2007 when he was promoted to become the Accra Central Divisional Commander until 2009. He also held the role of the Accra Regional Operations Commander.

The new Inspector General of Police later became the Deputy Accra Regional Commander and was promoted to Regional Commander in 2013.

He was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) in 2012 and later became Commissioner of Police in 2016 during Mahama’s first administration.

Academically, Yohuno is a trained accountant who holds an Intermediate Chartered Accountant certificate from the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), then known as IPS.

He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Human Resources Management) from the University of Ghana and an Executive MBA in Project Management.

Yohuno has experience in peacekeeping missions, having participated in two significant United Nations missions, in Bosnia and Herzegovina and East Timor.

In 2011, he was awarded the Grand Medal for his contributions to combating crime in Ghana. His swearing-in is scheduled for Friday, 14 March.

Yohuno is not the only police man who has moves; the man he is replacing is also considered a good dancer.

YEN.com.gh reported that Dampare's son was spotted dancing with his dad at the funeral of one of his in-laws.

Many Ghanaians were pleased by the bond between father and son and praised the former police boss's moves.
