Saturday, August 30, 2025, was a sad day for Ghana as family, friends, and dignitaries gathered for the one-week celebration of the late Daddy Lumba at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The atmosphere was heavy with grief, but Odo Broni, Daddy Lumba's widow, appeared to be the most affected by the sombre mood.
Dressed in full mourning attire with her black cloth tied tightly around her head, Odo Broni broke down uncontrollably the moment she came face-to-face with Daddy Lumba’s portrait.
The lifelike image of the beloved musician, holding a microphone with his signature braids, seemed to bring his presence back to life, and the sight was too much for her to bear.
Clutching her chest and still wearing her wedding ring, Odo Broni pressed herself against the portrait, weeping bitterly as family members rushed to pull her away gently.
Odo Broni's cries echoed through the crowd, piercing the hearts of onlookers who were themselves struggling to contain their own sorrow. At one point, she collapsed into the arms of another family member, who held her tightly, trying to console her as she cried out his name.
