The late highlife legend's family was forced to change its plans two days before the scheduled date following a directive from the La Traditional Council.
The traditional rulers, in a statement released on August 28, stated that a ban on noisemaking and funerals across the entire La Traditional Area for this year's Homowo festival will only be lifted after September 50.
The council suggested that the one-week observance be postponed after the ban is lifted.
However, the planning committee for Daddy Lumba's one-week observance has presented a new solution.
Rather than change the date, Daddy Lumba's family announced a new venue, Black Star Square, for the programme.
The new venue, Black Star Square in Osu, lies outside the La Council's jurisdiction. The official statement from Daddy Lumba's team is below.
Daddy Lumba's manager speaks on venue change
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Roman Fada, Daddy Lumba's manager, confirmed the venue change for Daddy Lumba's one-week observance.
According to Daddy Lumba, the original date on August 30 was scheduled based on the knowledge that the ban had been lifted earlier.
"We all thought the ban on noisemaking started on May 11 and ended on June 12, but they (the La council) are telling us that theirs is different and would end on September 5. We, as a committee and family, cannot dispute that because we uphold culture and tradition. Hence, the decision was made to change the venue from Legon Sports Stadium to Independence Square," Roman Fada said.
