The protesting residents gathered in red with placards to convey their frustrations on September 12.

The confrontations, which broke out on Monday and Tuesday, have heightened tensions in the community.

Reports indicate the clashes began after soldiers confronted residents allegedly attempting to access a mining concession belonging to Asanko Gold.

The first death occurred during the initial clash on Monday. When the body was being taken to the mortuary, some angry youth reportedly dumped the body at the military base in protest, leading to another confrontation that resulted in the death of a second person, who was later identified as an Assembly Member, Sekyi Michael.

The Ashanti Regional Minister visited the community to console the bereaved families.
