The Kenya Police community is reeling with grief and sadness following the tragic crash of a helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Francis Ogola.
The chopper went down and burst into flames in the Kaber area of Endo Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet, shortly after departing from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School on Thursday afternoon, April 18.

Immediately after the crash went viral, the president convened a National Security Council meeting at State House Nairobi. The Government Spokesperson advised Kenyans to remain calm as an official communication about the crash would be issued.

5. Was Francis Ogolla a lieutenant before his promotion?
Ogolla joined the Kenya Defence Forces on April 24, 1984, and was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant on May 6, 1985, and posted to Kenya Air Force.
He trained as a fighter pilot as well as an instructor pilot with USAF. He also trained in other fields, including imagery intelligence, counter-terrorism and accident investigation.
He graduated from ÉcoleMilitaire de Paris and the National Defence College of Kenya.
He holds a Diploma in International Studies and Military Science from Egerton University, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Armed Conflict and Peace Studies (First Class Honors) and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi. By 2024, he will have served in the military for 40 years.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Nigerian financier and businessman Herbert Wigwe, who was the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc and co-founder of Access Bank, had died in a helicopter crash while travelling with his family on February 9, 2024.
The sad incident, which happened around 10pm local time near Nipton, California, caused the death of the businessman, his wife, his son and three other passengers who were on board the helicopter before it crashed.
