Akwatia By-Election: Yayra Koku, Rashid Tanko Hail Dr Omane Boamah As Provisional Results Emerge

The National Democratic Congress has won the recently held by-election in Akwatia, as per provisional results released.

Some of the party's top officials, in celebrating their victory, reflected on the legacy of the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
They shared glowing tributes in honour of the politician, whose life was cut short in the recent helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
Yayra Koku, the newly appointed CEO of the National Identification Authority, shared a video from 2016 of the late Defence Minister dancing in the studios of Joy FM.
After campaigning for John Dramani Mahama's second term in 2016 on the Super Morning Show, Dr Omane Boamah danced to Shatta Wale's hit Mahama Paper.
In the video, he had Mahama's Green Book in his hands. The document provides an overview of Ghana's progress under President Mahama's leadership, as outlined in his 2012 campaign promises.
Yayra Koku shared the fond memory of Dr Omane Boamah hailing him for his guidance in contesting elections.
Akwatia by-election: NDC hails Omane Boamah
Rashid Tanko, in an interview after the Akwatia by-elections, also honoured Dr Omane Boamah.
The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the ruling NDC, who worked closely with the late Defence Minister, established that he left the blueprint needed to win the elections before he died.
What happened to Omane Boamah?
Dr Omane Boamah was aboard the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter when it crashed at Adansi Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The flight disappeared off radar shortly after takeoff from Accra and was later discovered to have crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District.
All eight members aboard the helicopter died when it went down in a forested area.
The fatalities included Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science & Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
A state funeral was held in honour of the eight casualties after the president announced a three-day national mourning.
Following their deaths, the three officers were posthumously promoted by the President.
Squadron Leader Peter Anala was promoted to Wing Commander, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu was promoted to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah was promoted to Flight Sergeant.

Guns seized at Akwatia ahead of by-election
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the Eastern South Regional Police Command had arrested 10 suspects and retrieved nine weapons in separate operations at Akwatia.
The weapons reportedly included eight pump-action guns and one locally manufactured single-barreled gun, seized during security operations ahead of the by-election.
