High Court Remands NPP's Bono Regional Chairman Abronye DC Into Police Custody

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been denied bail by Accra Circuit Court 9.
The controversial politician was consequently remanded into police custody and asked to reappear in court on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Abronye DC was arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, by armed security operatives from the Ghana Police Service and arraigned before the court on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, but the presiding judge denied him bail.
A statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Monday evening, stated that the NPP Bono Regional Chairman was arrested for 'offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace'.

Abronye applies for asylum in eight countries
The NPP Bono Regional Chairman recently applied for asylum in eight countries across Africa, Europe and America.
The countries are Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
In a petition filed at the embassies of the countries, Abronye DC stated that his life was under threat in Ghana and no longer feels safe in his country of birth.
He also accused the Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, of abusing state security powers.
Police raids Abor's house looking for Abronye
The police allegedly raided the residence of the former NPP Greater Accra Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in search of Abronye DC.

However, the opposition party politician was not found in his fellow politician's house at the time.
Abor told the media shortly after the raid that some of the security operatives were masked, with others armed as they searched his home for the NPP's Bono Regional Chairman.
He stated that it was only after they had searched everywhere in his house that they told him their reason for the visit.
“They searched the entire house. They searched all the rooms, my gardens, and even went into the next house. The police were there. Some of them were armed. They did not give the reason for their search until they were done.”

Cocobod CEO sues Abronye DC for defamation
In a related development, YEN.com.gh reported that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), Dr Randy Abbey, had sued Abronye DC for defamation.
He demanded GH¢20 million in damages for allegedly false and defamatory statements uttered against him by the NPP politician during a broadcast on August 23, 2025.
In the writ of summons, Dr Abbey claimed that Abronye DC had made baseless accusations against him to deliberately tarnish his reputation and had sought legal redress.
