Abronye DC Declares Hunger Strike After Court Remanded Him Into Custody for One More Week
- Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), has reportedly declared a hunger strike in protest of his continued detention
- This comes after the Accra Court denied him bail for the second time following his arrest on September 8, 2025
- Abronye DC is expected to make his third court appearance between September 18 and 19, 2025
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has reportedly declared a hunger strike in protest against his continued detention in police custody.
This follows the Accra Court's decision to deny him bail for the second time.

According to his lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, Abronye DC is undertaking the hunger strike because he views his arrest and detention as political persecution.
Abronye DC was arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, by armed security personnel from the Ghana Police Service.

A statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Monday evening stated that he was arrested for 'offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.'
Consequently, the NPP Bono Regional Chairman was arraigned before Accra Circuit Court 9 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, where the court remanded him into custody and ordered him to return on Friday, September 12, 2025.
However, when he appeared in court on September 12, the presiding judge denied him bail for the second time, remanding him into police custody for another week.
He is expected to make his third appearance in court next week, between September 18 and 19, 2025.

Abronye DC applies for asylum
A few days before his arrest, Abronye DC applied for asylum in Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
In a petition filed at the embassies of the countries, the controversially outspoken politician claimed to be facing political persecution adding that his life was under threat.
He also accused the Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, of abusing state security powers.

Abronye DC sued by presidential advisor
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that lawyers for Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a senior advisor to President John Mahama, wrote to Abronye DC over some alleged derogatory remarks.
Joyce Bawah demanded compensation and a public apology from Abronye DC.
Many Ghanaians who saw the post on social media expressed mixed reactions, with some delighted about the lawsuit while others criticised Mogtari.
