Ghanaian referee who worked for both FIFA and Ghana FA has died

- A topnotch Ghanaian FIFA referee who retired and was managing referees in Ghana has passed

- L.O. Laryea, as he is popularly called passed at 77 after a short ailment

L.O. Laryea, a retired Ghanaian referee who worked for FA and was currently a manager of referees at the Ghana FA has died at aged 77 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after battling a short illness.

Ghanasoccernet.com confirms that the celebrated FIFA referee was later appointed as the manager in the Referees Department of the Ghana Football Association.

The grandson of L.O. Laryea, spoke in an interview, stating how the health conditions of his grandfather led to the demise.

In his own words, the young man said:

"Yes, it's true my grandfather just passed on. He had been sick for a short while and gave up the ghost this morning."

Reports indicate that the deceased has been a great leader and mentor to many topnotch referees across Ghana. His own son David Laryea and grandson Daniel Laryea grabbed FIFA badges as a result of his mentorship.

The incident is described as a massive blow for the family Layea family - a great family that has become famous for producing top-class referees for Ghana.

In other sad news, a 30-year-old gentleman by name Attah Azimma at Papaase, near Assam, in the Ashanti Region has been killed by his own brother.

Adomonline.com reports that Attah was shot by Kwaku Kandarira, 35, after confusion ensued between them over the head of cooked dog meat.

Reports indicate that Kandarira was the one who prepared the meat but Attah wanted to use his own means to get the sweetest part which is the head.
