Enzo Maresca Calls Out Chelsea Goal Scorer Against Southampton
- Chelsea thrashed relegation-threatened Southampton 5-1 to move to second place in the Premier League
- Blues coach Enzo Maresca had some words for one of the scorers, Noni Madueke, asking him to "do more"
- The 22-year-old winger did well early in the season, but his form has somewhat regressed in recent weeks
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has criticised one Blues player, asking him to "do more".
The Blues thumped strugglers Southampton 5-1 to cement second place in the Premier League.
Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke, and Christopher Nkunku were on the scoresheet against The Saints, who played with 10 men for most of the contest.
Chelsea are enjoying a great start to the season after years of mediocrity. Although they haven't been mentioned as favourites to win the title, they could surprise many.
Maresca's problem with Madueke
Madueke scored Chelsea's third goal, his first since early October, but Maresca fired a warning and explained why he was missing against Aston Villa.
"He can do much more. The moment he starts to score or assist and is happy, he starts to drop a little bit and the reason why he was not playing is because I do not like the way he trained, Maresca said per Football London.
"He has to understand that he has to train every day good. He has to be ambitious. He scored one tonight, he has to go for the second one and the third one. He has to give more assists."
The former Leicester City boss praised the winger but challenged him to work harder. The 22-year-old has scored five league goals in 13 appearances, per Transfermarkt.
