Ghanaian football fans are set for disappointment this week, as the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Black Stars and Chad will not be shown on any local television station.
The game is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena, where the two nations enter the contest from very different positions.

Ghana currently lead Group I and are firmly on track to secure a place at the 2026 Mundial, while Chad, having lost all six of their matches so far, are already eliminated.
For Ghanaian supporters, the clash had been marked as a crucial step toward qualification, with victory away from home set to place the Black Stars in an even stronger position to book their ticket to football’s grandest stage.
However, reports indicate that fans in Ghana will be unable to watch the game live due to a FIFA ruling, leaving many frustrated as anticipation builds.
Why no local TV station will show Ghana vs Chad
According to Ghanasoccernet, State broadcaster GTV, which usually owns the rights to air Ghana’s national team games, has lost access after failing to clear outstanding debts owed to FIFA from earlier fixtures.
As a result, Ghanaians will be unable to watch Thursday’s clash against Chad in N’Djamena, as well as the all-important home fixture against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
The situation has stirred frustration among supporters, many of whom regard Black Stars matches as a national event that should be readily available to every citizen.
Instead, fans will be forced to follow the action through radio commentary or turn to international streaming platforms.
While disputes over television rights have denied Ghanaians live coverage in the past, this situation is especially worrying as it stems from debts owed by the state broadcaster.
With frustration mounting, many supporters are urging authorities to step in quickly, resolve the standoff, and guarantee that future Black Stars games are not jeopardised by financial disagreements.

According to Foot Africa, New World Sport and Canal+ group channels will telecast the clash, while both Ghanaian fans and international viewers can also stream it via FIFA+, with the encounter scheduled to kick off at 13:00 GMT.

Per Graphic Online, Otto Addo unveiled a 24-man squad that combines proven experience with exciting new faces. The likes of Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, and Inaki Williams provide the spine of the team, while Tariq Lamptey makes a return after a long injury layoff.
There are also chances for Derrick Arthur Kohn of Union Berlin and red-hot FC Nordsjaelland striker Caleb Yirenkyi to impress.
Chad coach Savoy has equally assembled a 24-man squad, leaning on defensive stalwarts Ebenezer Ngardial and Yves Allarabaye to tighten their shaky backline. Midfield responsibility falls to Franky Tchaouna and Eric Mbangossoum, who are tasked with bringing balance to the side.
In attack, Haroun Tchaouna and Amine Hiver will lead the line, though breaking down Ghana’s resolute defence may prove difficult against the Group I leaders.
Spotlight on Mohammed Kudus
YEN.com.gh recently highlighted a crucial area of Mohammed Kudus’ game that requires improvement if he is to help Ghana secure World Cup qualification and make a lasting impact at Tottenham.
The 24-year-old joined Spurs from West Ham United this summer and has generally impressed in his first four competitive outings for the Europa League holders.
