Rather than dwelling on the setback of being overlooked, the 27-year-old seized his chance in Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali.
Stationed in midfield alongside Thomas Partey, he impressed with calm passing, disciplined positioning, and strong defensive cover that allowed his partner to roam more freely.

The partnership gave the Black Stars balance in the middle of the park, and despite a few nervy moments, Sibo’s debut ended on a winning note.
Alexander Djiku’s scrappy finish handed Ghana a slender 1-0 victory, a result that kept Otto Addo’s men top of Group I with 19 points from eight matches.
With two fixtures left, one more triumph would all but secure their place at the global showpiece.

Kwasi Sibo makes stylish club return
After playing his part in Ghana’s triumph, Sibo wasted no time returning to Spain, where he linked up with his Real Oviedo teammates.
In a video posted by the club on Instagram, he was seen arriving in style, stepping out of a sleek black Hyundai Tucson.
The compact SUV, known for its modern design and smart technology, turned heads, but it was Sibo’s fluency in Spanish that truly sparked reactions.

“Yes, I'm very happy. Now that I am here [in Oviedo], we go to work and then on Saturdays [against Getafe].”

This season, Sibo has featured in three La Liga matches for Oviedo, accumulating 197 minutes of action, per Transfermarkt.
With an average rating of 6.3 from Flashscore, he will be eager to return to the starting lineup after he was benched in the 1-0 win against Real Sociedad when his side faces sixth-placed Getafe in their next outing.
