The singer who has now changed her name to Abena Serwaa Ophelia, says some of her close friends practically celebrated and rejoiced after marriage collapsed.

Ophelia who had gone on a long music break, told Showbiz that there is no unity among Ghanaian gospel musicians as many of her colleagues mocked her because of her misfortune.

“I don’t want to give too much detail about what happened but comments passed by some of my colleagues showed they were happy about my divorce. At the time I needed consolation from them, that’s when I heard the worse things,” Ophelia told Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Saturday.

The mother of four ended her marriage to ex-husband, Collins Nyantakyi, and faced tough times from media speculations and individuals.

Abena Serwaa Ophelia as she is now called, revealed that she remained quiet and allowed the swirling rumors at the time, since it would have been unwise for her to speak ill about her ex-husband.

“There is no point in making public how badly your partner treated you in the marriage. Once the divorce happens, the best thing is to keep quiet about it and move on with your life,” she said.

The singer who is now back from her long break has certainly moved on as she is now remarried and currently working on her new album.

Ophelia maintained that she has rather drawn closer to God since her marriage troubles, and urged Christians to be firm.

She also advised that doing Gospel music comes with so many attacks from the devil and many who are not rooted in Christ are likely to fall along the journey.

Abena Serwa Ophelia is now back in full time ministry and she celebrated 20 years of music, which was accompanied by a concert last saturday at the Las Vegas Leisure Centre, New Bortianor in Accra.
