42-year-old teacher charged for defiling old student
- A teacher identified as Ben Nyumu had reportedly been having illegitimate sex with the girl for sometime now
- The court turned down his application for a bail and remanded into police custody until July 25
A 42-year-old teacher has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions. The accused was remanded into police custody as the case was adjourned to July 25.
The accused, Ben Nyumu is said to be a teacher in the school of the victim at Abokobi. The victim herself is a recent BECE sitter awaiting her results after the examinations.
The counsel for the defence put in an application for the bail of Nyumu but the court chaired by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku rejected the application.

Narrating the story before the court, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo, said the two were found in an uncompleted building naked on the morning of July 12.
Prior to that, father of the victim, a police officer, had a tip-off that his daughter had been invited by the accused.
His instincts to go after the matter follows a much earlier suspicion of the teacher's misconduct with his daughter.
When they were found, the victim accepted that Nyumu had been luring her into the act on different occasions. She explained that on the occasion they were found, they were relaxing after their business.
