Akufo-Addo nominates Jean Mensa as new EC Chairperson
- President Akufo-Addo sent the name of Jean Mensa to the Council of State for consideration as the new EC Chairperson
- Three others were also nominated for various positions at the EC
President Nana Akufo-Addo has nominated Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC).
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
According to the statement, President Akufo-Addo has already forwarded the name of Mrs. Mensa to the Council of State for their advice.
Also nominated are Mr Samuel Tettey, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, and Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa as Deputy Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and member of the EC respectively.

"The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has, by letter dated, Thursday 19th July, 2018, sought the advice of the Council of State, in accordance with Article 70 (2) of the Constitution, for the appointment of a new Chairperson, two Deputy Chairpersons, and a member of the Electoral Commission (EC)," statement said.
The new EC Chairperson will replace Mrs. Charlotte Osei who was removed from office on June 28, following recommendations by a special committee constituted by Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo to investigate a petition brought against Mrs Osei.

Mr Tettey and Dr Bossman on the other hand, replace Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah who were also indicted by the Chief Justice's committee.
Ms. Abrefa's nomination is to fill in the void created by the retirement of Mrs. Pauline Dadzawa as a member of the EC.
Mrs. Mensa, a lawyer by profession, is the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
