Metro TV lays off 45 employees

Metro TV, a privately-owned free-to-air television company, has reportedly sacked 45 employees.

According to a report by MyNewsGH.com, the affected employees are support staff employed by the company.

YEN.com.gh understands that more employees could be sacked in the coming weeks.

Information available suggests that the local union of workers in the company demanded redundancy, and it was granted.

This occurred at the time the management of the company is preparing to roll out new programmes for viewers.

This is in line with the company’s plan to reposition itself as a player in the market.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported a similar layoff at TV3 Network Limited in which 25 employees lost their jobs as part of a retrenchment exercise.

Metro TV since its inception in 1997, successfully established its brand as Ghana’s second largest broadcasting station, by providing national coverage to all 10 regional capitals in Ghana.

It was recently acquired by the Jospong Group of Companies, which is owned by Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong.
