Ghanaians condemn John Mahama’s post about corruption in Akufo-Addo’s government

Former president John Mahama’s message to mark the 37th anniversary of the 31st December revolution has drawn criticisms from a cross-section of Ghanaians.

On December 31, 1981, then Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, together with some military men seized political power from Dr. Hilla Limann, who came to power with the help of the People’s National Party.

Rawlings thereafter established the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) to rule the country.

In a bid to mark the 37th anniversary of the revolution, Mahama posted a message on Facebook, a social media platform.

In the message, he commended Rawlings for their efforts in ensuring that Ghana’s democracy is protected.

He also indicated that a recent upsurge in corruption and nepotism are in deviation of the revolutionary values for which people laid down their lives.

Mahama therefore urged president Akufo-Addo to ensure that his fight against corruption and nepotism is meaningful, by investigating and prosecuting the many allegations made against his appointees.

This did not go down well with some Ghanaians, who expressed their opinions about his message:

Edwin argued that not every Ghanaian has a short memory.

Stallone expressed doubts about the authorship of the post.

To Gunu, Mahama is full of incompetence.

Kumah also wondered about the one who wrote the post for Mahama.

Kedem also called for the prosecution of Mahama's appointees, as it was long overdue.

Pippin expressed surprise at Mahama writing about corruption and nepotism.

Samuel also asserted that Ghanaians don't have short memories.

Amoah also stated that some people still believe Mahama's lies.
