NAM 1 is currently in the custody of the Dubai Police after he was arrested on Monday, December 7, 2018.

His arrest followed an alleged misrepresentation to security authorities in Dubai by a Dubai-based company that it could be connected to an alleged botched gold business with a Ghanaian company, one of whose officials was known to him.

Sources close to the matter claimed he had landed in the Persian Gulf late last year with the hope of retrieving some $39 million owed Menzgold by a Dubai-based company, Horizon Royal Diamonds DMCC, for the supply of gold.

Meanwhile, a special Ghanaian delegation of security operatives on Monday, January 13, 2019, left Accra for Dubai to engage the Emirati authorities to extradite NAM1 to Ghana to face the law.

The Ghana Police Service triggered an Interpol alert on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, to facilitate a search for NAM1 globally. This was triggered after it confirmed reports that an arrest warrant had been issued for NAM 1 and two other directors of Menzgold Limited on charges of defrauding by false pretences.
