Korle Bu reacts to story of child who swallowed coin and died at facility
- Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has in a statement, revealed that a patient who swallowed a coin is still alive
- This comes after rumours went viral to the effect that the young patient lost her life after swallowing the coin
- The hospital has cautioned people against false reports and has threatened legal action agaist those caught doing so
The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has in a statement dismissed claims that a child died at the hospital after swallowing a coin.
According to the management of the hospital, the coin descended into the stomach of the patient and they are therefore awaiting results from the passage of stool.
The statement added that the child is doing well and has been discharged from the hospital as against reports that workers looked on as she battled for her life.

Korle Bu revealed that the patient was admitted into its Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department after being transferred from another health facility.
The patient was soon put on IV fluids to prevent weakness as efforts were being made to remove the coin, should the need arise.
The hospital noted that it would not hesitate to pursue legal action against any person or group of people who circulate fake news.
The statement comes after claims of death following the swallowing of a coin by a child went viral on social media.
In another report, residents of Anomabo in the Central region have benefitted from free medical services provided by Ghana Medical Relief (GMR).

GMR, made up of medical practitioners and volunteers from Ghana and the United States of America (USA), embarked on the health exercise to offer various services.
Services rendered for four days for free included paediatric, urology, general medicare, dental, gynecology and obstetrics services.
The exercise was enjoyed by over 3000 residents of Anomabo and according to physician and GMR’s president, Dr. Samuel Kwapong Owusu, of immense concern was the number of fibroid cases recorded through the screening of women.
He therefore took the opportunity to urge the members of the community, especially the women, to have regular medical checks.
