The Dangme language is a one that is spoken in the south-east of Ghana. It is spoken by a community known as the Adaŋgbi or as the Adangme. The community is sometimes referred to as the Dangme. Although there are so many languages spoken in this country, Dangme stands out from the rest. This is due to its unique features. Its outstanding aspects have made this style an exceedingly essential subject for linguists. Linguists and also tourists from all over the world are developing an interest in this language. It is quite easy to learn and master.

  1. Ga-Dangme is one of the ethnic communities that reside in Ghana. Other ethnic communities in Ghana include Mole-Dagbon, Mande-Busanga, Guan, Gurma, Grusi, among many others. The Ga-Dangme ethnic group is located in the Dangme West and East districts, East Akim municipal, New Juaben municipal, and Fanteukwa. This group can also be tracked down in lower Manya Krobo Yilo Krobo municipal district, upper Manya Krobo, and in the North Tongu district.
  2. It is one of the languages spoken in Ghana. This country is located in the western part of the African continent. It is situated between Togo and Cote d’Ivoire. About 4.3% of Ghana population speak the Dangme language.
  3. The Dangme is also referred to as the Adaŋgbi or as the Adangme. Therefore, if you hear people describing the Adaŋgbi ethnic group, do not be confused about what community this is. It is the Dangme community.
  4. There are various dialects that use this common language in Ghana. It is not an unusual thing to find a style having dialects. If you have always wondered about the dialects of this style, then here is the answer. The dialects of the Adaŋgbi include the Osu, Ada, Gbugbla, Ningo, Shai, and the Krobo.
  5. The dominant religion practiced among this indigenous group in Ghana is Christianity. About 93% of the 1, 216, 000 Adaŋgbi speakers practice Christianity as their primary religion. However, this does not mean that they do not practice another religion. Other religious practices that are popular among these indigenous people are Protestants, Roman Catholics, Islamic, non-religious, and independent. About 30% of the ethnic group are protestants, while Roman Catholics - 30% of the total population. Independent religion is practiced by 40% of the Adaŋgbi. Three percent of the Adaŋgbi practice the Islamic religion, while 3% of the same population has been identified to be non-religious.

Any linguist in Ghana will tell you that one of the most exciting styles in the country is that of the Adaŋgbi or as the Adangme. This community speaks the Dangme language. It is so common that 4.3% of the population in Ghana are familiar with it. The Dangme style has various dialects, making it also quite accessible.
