Ghana School of Law is an initiative of the first Ghanaian president, Dr. Kwameh Nkrumah who realized the need to train legal practitioners to serve the country and its neighbors. It was established in 1958 to cater for the growing demand for legal services in the region. It has remained the legal teaching institution in Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa since then.

To study at the institution, one can now apply online. The process is simple and straightforward. You should take note of the relevant dates of purchase and submission of the forms before filling them in. The forms are categorized differently depending on the information required They are as follows:

  • Form 1 – Personal information: You are to fill all the required details on this form. In addition to that, upload a passport photo and save to continue for you to receive form 2/
  • FORM 2 – Examinations page: This form requires that you supply detail of your academic achievements, educational background, work experience with proof that you will attach in form 3, contact person and miscellaneous entries. It is also on this form that you will fill in your program selection.
  • Form 3 – Upload documents: Attach and upload all relevant documents that will be needed as supporting material. Counter-check before sending
  • Form 4 – Submission: This last stage requires that you submit after confirming that all the entries are done adequately.

Applicants must adhere to the instructions before proceeding to the online application on the school's website. They should also note that the filling of form does not have to be done in one sitting.

Online application process

To apply, you must have bought an e-voucher that comes with a pin and serial number. Once you fill the information in, it will direct you to the next steps to follow. Buying the voucher can be done by purchasing a banker's draft at any bank then presenting it to the accounts office in exchange for an electronic voucher. It will contain the serial number and a PIN that will enable you to apply online

Ghana School of Law entry requirements

Once you are done with the Ghana School of Law application and it is successful, you need to sit for an entrance exam before you gain admission. The Ghana School of Law entrance exams for specified eligible applicants as specified in the Ghana School of Law website. The following categories of applicants are eligible to sit for the exam.

  1. All the LLB graduates from the different Faculties of Law of known Public Universities in Ghana. These may include the likes of KNUST, Kumasi, University of Ghana(Legon) as well as GIMPA as approved by the National Accreditation Board (NAB), not forgetting the General Legal Council (GLC).
  2. All LLB graduates from Private University Colleges Faculties of Law based in Ghana as long as they are approved by the NAB and GLC.
  3. All Ghanaian nationals that are LLB graduates or those that hold equivalent law degrees from reputable institutions in the UK, United States of America, Canada and other known common law jurisdictions. They must obtain passes in each of the prescribed admission subjects or courses that in turn enables them to pursue a Professional Law Course.

When you decide to study at this institution, concerns such as how much does it cost to study in Ghana should cross your mind. Like it is for all other institutions of higher learning, imparting knowledge comes at a high cost. You will have to follow the official fee payment schedule. Not that schools have the right to change the figures and that this is subject to the administration's decisions. The following is a summary of the fee schedule:

  • GHS 8,200 is accepted as a first instalment at admission
  • The second instalment that must be paid in during the first term should be GHS 3,000
  • The accepted third instalment is GHS 2000 which should be paid before the second term begins.

Take note of the fact that at the acceptance of admission, the student must make 2 separate bankers drafts. The first one should be worth GHS 700 and the second one GHS 2000. Drafts should be made in the board of legal education.
