Universities, JHS, SHS to be closed down until further notice - Akufo-Addo (video)

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has in a Facebook live video announced that all public and private schools including universities are from 16th of March 2020 suspended for the next four weeks.

Also, all public gatherings have been suspended for the next four weeks as part measures to control the spread of coronavirus.

Church services, conferences, public funerals, political rallies, and all other public gatherings are also suspended.

This follows a 6-hour meeting with the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 rapid response.

The Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu announced two confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19 in Ghana.

According to the Health Minister, the two persons tested positive after laboratory tests from the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research on Thursday, March 12.

A statement sighted by YEN.com.gh from the Ministry of Health indicates that the two confirmed cases were reported as ‘imported cases’ since both individuals returned to Ghana from Norway and Turkey.

He made this revelation while addressing an emergency press briefing organized by the Information ministry, Yesterday, March 12, 2020.

Meanwhile, the University of Ghana earlier announced the suspension of lectures over the confirmation that one of its students has contracted the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The suspension was disclosed the school's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, during an address on Radio Univers on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

In his address, Prof Oduro also announced a ban on non-residential students from coming to the university's campus until further notice.
