COVID-19: 11-day-old baby contracts virus at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region is witnessing an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Unfortunately, the cases being recorded includes babies and children with the oldest being 14 years.
According to a report filed by JoyNews, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has in the last 10 days, recorded 9 cases among children.

The sad part is, the youngest among the cases recorded is an 11-day-old baby.
The Head of the Child Health Directorate, Professor Sampson Antwi, said the situation is taking a toll on the facility as management struggles to access space for children diagnosed with COVID-19 and other cases.
Prof Antwi said there are ongoing talks with the Regional Health Directorate to create a treatment center for children with COVID-19.
“We are exploring the possibility of getting treatment center for children [with Covid].
Meanwhile, Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Monday, January 25, 2021, said the Akufo-Addo administration is feverishly considering another lockdown as COVID-19 cases in the country continue to increase.
Ghana has since the inception of January witnessed an astronomical surge in case count.
Active cases stand at 3, 813 as of the time of filing this report with more deaths recorded, taking the number to 377.
“There’s a possibility of a lockdown and other restrictions,” the Information Minister-designate told journalists in Accra.
“If this trend continues, then yes that is where we are heading. I have to be very clear on that one that more restrictions could be introduced if this trend continues,” he stressed.
If the president announces another lockdown to restrict movement to curb the spread of COVID-19, it would be the second time such a measure is taken.
In March 2020, President Akufo-Addo announced lockdown restrictions as well as closing down schools, churches, limiting social gatherings, as well as closing down pubs.
Ghana recorded its first case of the virus on March 12, 2020 from two people who arrived into the country.
One was a Ghanaian and the other a Norwegian national.
