The Fisheries Minister-designate, Mavis Hawa Koomson, yesterday, February 18, 2021, faced the Appointments Committee of Parliament to be vetted.

During the vetting process, a question was thrown at her to define what fish farming was and its advantages.

Her response in an attempt to answer the question that was thrown at her made her a topic for public ridicule and condemnation.

Most people were quite disappointed in the fact that someone who had been nominated for such a portfolio had little or no knowledge about the sector and could not express herself freely when questions were thrown at her.

The host of Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere however does not see any reason why she should be dragged in the court of public opinion.

He jumped to the defense of the Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture on her performance during her vetting at Parliament’s Appointment Committee.

In reaction to the social media backlash, Adom Otchere said most of her critics were hypocrites and have judged her wrongly.

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, he made a case in favor of how Hawa Koomson had been able to achieve something with her life looking at her background.

He said those who criticize Hawa Koomson over her English articulation should endeavor to take her background into consideration.

“Is it about English? Did she go to Achimota School with you…… We have to understand that life is about opportunities and people get opportunities .... Those of you that sit on social media finish university that you don’t know anything in your head...they are blockheaded people who don’t know anything,” he fumed.

Adom Otchere added that her track record as Minister for Development and Special Initiatives speaks for her.

He was particularly pissed at how members of the committee sat and comfortably laughed at her utterances during the vetting.

He however believes that the president's selection of Hawa Koomson means she has something to offer in the development of the country.

In other news, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has sarcastically suggested that President Akufo-Addo needs to consider the appointment of an awareness minister.

His sarcastic comment comes after almost all the nominees kept chanting the mantra "I'm unaware" to some critical questions they were asked when they appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
