Lady organises class for Nigerian men, teaches them how to bathe babies, change diapers, video goes viral

- A Nigerian health expert, Tolulope Adeleke-Aire, is using her knowledge to bring families close to each other

- With antenatal classes for first-time fathers, the men are shown how they could assist their wives in taking care of the babies

- While some of the participants found it hard taking up the new role, others were curious throughout

A Nigerian lady, Tolulope Adeleke-Aire, is changing the norm and teaching men things the traditional society would not expect of them.

She is breaking the cultural barrier by teaching men how to bathe and care for their babies without having to leave everything to the mothers.

In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, she organised a baby bathing session for men under a canopy, using toys as examples.

Tolu also showed them how to change a kid’s diapers and oil their head like a nursing mother would do.

She said that the aim of organising the dad-antenatal-class is to make men involved in the lives of their kids.

When one of the male participants asked how smart it could be to change the nappy of a baby outside, the teacher replied that though it may be hard, stabilizing the baby on both legs while sitting would help.

Another man said he does not think he can handle the task of bathing a child, saying it is not the father’s job where he comes from.

Tolu said:

“I want it to be a norm that men and women are pregnant together and go for all the checks every day together.”
