Bishop TD Jakes of The Potter's House has taken to social media to share his thought on marriage and silence.
In a Twitter post on Monday, May 17, the popular cleric said silence is not golden in marriage. He simply tweeted:
"In a marriage, silence is not golden."
The statement is a proverb that emphasises the importance of saying nothing when the occasion demands our silence.
TD Jakes has advised married couples that such a proverb is not applicable to marriage and many have reacted to that piece of advice.
@Rare_Nkem said:
"Africa woman, you better remain silent when your husband is boiling then later iron the issue(s) out. Don't talk while your husband is talking. In this aspect of mine, silence is golden."
@victor_onoriode commented:
"In some cases, silence is golden. Some people's mouth can run like heavy storm causing a lot of damage. I will suggest we should just be silence (sic) and talk to your spouse when the heat of their differences is down. Thanks @BishopJakes."
@osenkafoabbey said:
"When something ain't right in the marriage, you've got to talk it over in a compassionate way. Don't keep quiet."
@ErickaB98173825 commented:
"Sometimes silence is necessary until the situation calls for one to express their side."
It was previously reported that Bishop TD Jakes said he traced his roots to Nigeria and discovered that his ancestors were Igbos.
The renowned man of God made the disclosure during an interview with BBC Igbo, where he said he has the major attribute of the Igbo tribe, which is hardworking.
Jakes said he eats fufu and jollof rice whenever he comes to Nigeria, adding that Nigerian cuisines make his head sweat.
