Kids Get New Soccer Pitch, Enrolled in School after Challenging man to Football Game
- What originally started as a street football game has brought good fortune to kids of the Makoko community in Lagos
- This is as the kids challenged a stranger who dropped by to witness a football contest with consequences for not hitting their agreed targets
- Both parties hit their target and to the kids' surprise, they were gifted a beautiful soccer pitch and also enrolled in school
For kids in the water-logged Makoko community in Lagos, it was just another day to enjoy their street soccer until a man and his friends dropped by and changed their lives.
According to the founder of Slum2School Africa Orondaam Otto on LinkedIn, in 2019, he and his team in the course of their community visits bumped into kids playing football.
The out-of-school kids made a promise to go to school, should Otto score five goals. In turn, the kids were promised a soccer pitch if they went to school.
Otto did score the five goals much to the jubilation of the kids. He stated that while they all celebrated the goals, the management of his beneficiary team took it upon themselves to sponsor the enrollment of the kids in school.
He was now left with the task of building them a soccer pitch.
Building a soccer pitch in a water-logged Makoko
For Otto and his team, building a soccer pitch in a water-logged community was a challenging task they were prepared to see to its end.
He said their construction efforts were halted following the break out of Coronavirus in early 2020. They later continued and thanks to the support from their partners, the dream soccer pitch became a reality.
Sharing a video of himself and the well-kitted kids enjoying a game of football on the newly built soccer pitch, he expressed optimism that the pitch will bring hope to youths in the community.
Social media users hailed his selflessness and gesture that has lifted the situation of the kids.
