Paul Scholes Names One Team That Can Beat Man City to Premier League Title
- Manchester City are favourites to win the 2024/25 Premier League title, and Arsenal are their closest challengers
- Mikel Arteta's team battled Man City all of last season, but one defeat cost them their first league title in 20 years
- Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the Gunners could beat Man City to the title this coming season
The 2024/25 Premier League season kicks off this week with the Manchester United vs Fulham clash On Friday, August 16.
Manchester City are seeking a historic fifth straight Premier League crown but Arsenal will be looking to end their stranglehold on the league.
Man United legend Paul Scholes believes Man City are the team to beat this season, but there's a surprise team that could challenge them.
The Gunners had another sensational season in the Premier League, but one slip-up handed Pep Guardiola's team the title.
Mikel Arteta's team finished two points behind Man City and some feel their defeat at home to Aston Villa in April saw them lose the title.
“We know the demands in the league and the competition we are facing,” Arteta said via Arsenal.com. "So all the work we’re doing is to find ways to get better and to see where the margins can be for our improvement. That pain [from last season] is still there, and I think it has to remain there..."
Liverpool were in the mix but faded as the season wore on. Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have not contested for the title for years and it is unlikely they will mount a challenge.
Paul Scholes Premier League prediction
The 11-time Premier League champion expects the 2024/25 season to be the same as last season.
However, he sees the Gunners pipping Guardiola's side to the crown this time around.
"I think the Premier League favourites will be the same as last year," he said via Sportbible. I think City will be the favourites closely followed by Arsenal. I have said a few times I expect Arsenal to be the team to win it this year. They have progressed over the last few years with Mikel Arteta especially."
"I feel like this year is the time where they are ready to win it."
Arsenal last won the league 20 years ago and have been close to ending that drought in the last two seasons.
