A young Ghanaian father has taken to social media to make a passionate appeal to the Ghana Education Service over the prices of books for students in basic school.

In a now-viral video sighted by YEN.com.gh on TikTok, the young man, who looked sad, expressed disbelief that he had spent GH₵2,100 on books for his child at the basic school level.

Holding the many books that he had bought, the young man wondered why a student in class three would need so many books at that level.

He then stated that because of the financial investment in his child's education, he had to put on hold certain things he often does, like going for his routine shave.

"I have not been able to shave because my barber takes GH₵60. I know I am going to buy books, because these are the books for one child, and it is now left with just one."

While calling on the Ghana Education Service to look into the matter, the young man also advised men who are fond of shirking their parental duties to reconsider, as single mothers struggle to provide for the needs of children alone.

"Ghana Education Service, we are begging you to do something about this, all these books for a student in class three."

At the time of writing this report, the video had garnered over 5,000 likes and 100 comments.

Woman complains about high cost of school fees

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a Ghanaian woman went viral after she was spotted in a video complaining about the high cost of her child's school fees.

This comes after she attempted to enrol her kid in preschool and was told that she would have to pay GH₵7,300.

She then disclosed that her child was not even one year old yet.
