Fake doctor arrested in GH¢60,000 recruitment scam at Kpong

The police have arrested a 32-year-old fake doctor at Kpong in the Manya Krobo Municipality for allegedly defrauding the youth in the area to the tune of GH¢60,000.

Michael Hope Amuzu defrauded over 58 people by telling them that he would help them secure jobs in the security services, according to a report by the Daily Graphic.

The victims were said to have paid between GH¢700 and GH¢2000 to him in the hope that he would help them get jobs in the police, army or immigration service.

The recruitment scam was uncovered when one of Amuzu's victims led the police to arrest him at his hideout at the residence of his wife, one Sarah, at Nuaso (Kasimu lane) at about 10:00pm on Thursday.

The angry victims besieged the Odumase-Krobo circuit court when they heard that Amuzu had been sent there for prosecution by the police.

The victims, according to the report, comprised people of varying ages and background including artisans and students from different parts of the region and Ho in the Volta Region.

Police say Amuzu claimed he was a teacher but could not provide information as to where he worked.

A search at his residence reportedly revealed a number of forms of the various security services filled and endorsed by some of the victims. It is not clear if the forms were genuine or fake, the report said.
