According to Ghana's former head of state, the Ford SUV given by Mr. Kanazoe was never given as a personal gift to him.
On the other hand, it was also reported that the same Ford SUV was among the 208 state vehicles reported missing when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration took office in January. This was following the National Democratic Congress's defeat at the December 7th General Elections.

“That vehicle still is in the pool of government and even as I handed over to my [successor], that vehicle is in the service of the government of Ghana.
“I was never under any illusion that that vehicle was given to me as a gift, personally, and, so, I never ever considered it as a personal gift and the vehicle continued to serve government under my administration and has been left to the new administration.”
It was recently announced that President Mahama had been awarded the African Political Leader of the Year Award, and he is currently in South Africa to attend the ceremony and also give a keynote message at the African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Person of the Year 2016 awards ceremony.
