In an interview with YEN.com.gh, Awuku said the idea came to him when he made leather from plastic waste during the pandemic after experimenting for 12 months.

''I wanted to arrive at a place where I could create affordable furniture for rural folks that don't have furniture, and they'll be cheap enough for people to buy.
''One of the challenges is that recycling items are expensive, but I've figured that out. I made these items just last week; I made the first prototype, and we sent it to an exhibition and tested it with over 50 people sitting on them,'' he told YEN.com.gh.

The Mckingtorch Africa founder said the company has reached a point where they are ready to start identifying a school to run a product pilot.
