Ghana's Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, says he is ready to effect the shutdown of MultiChoice Ghana.
This comes after a long-standing standoff between the operator of DSTV in Ghana and the government over subscription prices.

The minister had given a directive requiring the company to reduce their prices or risk losing its license by September 6, 2025.
On September 5, the minister announced that it had managed to get MultiChoice to agree to cut its prices.
The company released a statement a few hours later, rebuffing the minister's claims and insisting that it needed an amicable solution.
The minister promptly reacted to MultiChoice's counterstatement, deeming it a disrespect to the laws of Ghana.
In a social media post published a little past 9pm on September 6, Sam George said,
Let me be clear, I have no intention to continue tolerating the disrespect to Ghanaians by DStv.
If MultiChoice is not interested as they claim in their last statement, in discussing a reduction in prices as they had indicated to me, we would proceed to effect the shutdown tomorrow as indicated.
DStv indicated their willingness to engage the Ministry on its concerns on pricing and prayed us to stay our enforcement action. If they have changed their position, then we simply would enforce the regulatory action.
No company is above the law. When MultiChoice is ready to discuss price reduction, they can come to the negotiation table. Until then, there is nothing for us to meet over. The
@NCAGhana would carry out enforcement. Ghana is open for businesses that respect our laws and institutions. 🦁🇬🇭

Next time request a joint statement or signed MoU of the agreement. Trusting a dishonest company is a risk

Enough of the talking. Shut them down. In any way where is ur proof that they accepted ur 30% price reduction. Enough of subjecting the country to mockery by this multi choice people. Show them no one fights a government and ends up winning
@_Drederder remarked:
You're too weak to be a minister, and it’s clear in your writing. How embarrassing is it that you announced DSTV’s plan to lower prices, only for them to deny everything you said? Why are you chasing online clout instead of doing your job for Ghanaians? Step up!
@real_moveon commented:
At least tell us the truth. They have not reduce prices but you lied to Ghanaians that they have reduce prices 🤦♂️

Sam George cushions Okada riders
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Sam George had halted the enforcement of the regulation requiring courier riders to have licenses.
The Ghana Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission began targeting unlicensed courier operators on August 20, leading to arrests and the seizure of motorbikes.
The minister acknowledged that the enforcement was necessary. However, he noted in a release that there was a need for better stakeholder engagement on the matter.
