Kwadwo Sarfo delivered a passionate speech, expressing profound gratitude after the President donated GH₵50,000 to the volunteering group on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
YEN.com.gh understands that the relaunch of Ghana’s National Sanitation Day occurred at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina. This relaunch event, presided over by President John Mahama, marked the formal reintroduction of the initiative under the “Clean Up Ghana” agenda.
Buzstop boys appreciate President Mahama
While speaking during the event, the leader of the volunteering group, committed to cleaning communities across Ghana, explained that the generous donation came at a critical time when the group needed a mini-excavator to make their cleanup efforts easier.
He also added that such a huge donation would surely inspire other youths to get involved in their initiative. He called the attention of the president to some other volunteering groups that had also made it their mission to see the streets of Ghana clean and welcoming.
He emphasised the direct link between a clean environment and public health, warning that a deteriorating environment leads to more hospital visits.
In a powerful comparison, he pointed out that Rwanda, a country that was fighting a genocide in 1996, now has the cleanest city in Africa, arguing that Ghana, having been spared such conflict, has no excuse for not doing better

President Mahama also donated 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 pairs of gloves, and standing brushes.
During an interview with YEN.com.gh, Chinelo Ifeoma Okafor, an environmental journalist in Nigeria, commented on similar initiatives in Nigeria that align with the Buzstop Boys' agenda in Ghana.
She wrote:
"Absolutely. Nigeria is teeming with grassroots environmental heroes. In Lagos alone, we have groups like RecyclePoints, Clean-Up Nigeria, and Pick That Trash that mobilize youth to clean markets, drainages, and beaches. What Buzstop Boys are doing in Ghana mirrors a growing wave of eco-volunteerism across West Africa. The challenge, as always, is sustainable support from government and private stakeholders. But the spirit? It's alive, and multiplying."
