Asantehemaa Funeral: Otumfuo Tearfully Bids Nana Konadu Yiadom III Farewell

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was overwhelmed with emotions on the final day of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III's four-day funeral.

Asantehemaa's funeral started on Monday, September 15, 2025, and continued through to Thursday, September 19, 2025.

Otumfuo's solemn and sad mood on the final day was captured in a few seconds of a TikTok video making the rounds online.

In the video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the Asante King was seen in his royal palanquin dressed in full regalia.

The Asantehemaa's casket was being carried away from the funeral grounds after the final day of her Dote Yie.

Female mourners present were entreated to take off their scarves in reverence to their queen.

Otumfuo was seen performing a traditional dance from his palanquin. The Asante monarch was moved to tears as he fulfilled the age-old tradition in the late queenmother's honour.

In the Asante hierarchy, the queenmother, second in authority only to the Asantehene, plays a crucial role in regulating the legitimacy of successors to the Golden Stool and ensuring adherence to customs and traditions.

Her influence extends to matters of succession, advising the Asantehene, and even having the power to depose him in certain circumstances.

Apart from her status as the 14th Asantehemaa, the late Nana Konadu Yiadom is believed to be the only biological relative of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

John Mahama attends Asantehemaa's funeral

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported Ghana's president, John Dramani Mahama, had joined mourners at Asantehemaa's funeral.

Mahama arrived in Kumasi on a white aeroplane. An entourage comprising the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, was at the airport to welcome him.
