The wife and mother of Samuel Aboagye, one of the victims of the Wednesday, August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, wept bitterly after hearing news of his death.

Samuel Aboagye, the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Obuasi East constituency, was one of eight victims of the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crash.

The group was headed to Obuasi to attend an anti-illegal mining event headlined by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

The helicopter they were travelling in crashed in the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, confirmed the death of all eight occupants of the flight in a press conference held at the Jubilee House.

The victims were identified as Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.

Three Ghana Air Force officers on the flight also died and were identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The news of the tragedy shook the nation and left seasoned politicians such as the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, in tears.

Following the news of the helicopter crash, Adom TV interviewed Samuel Aboagye’s family at his mother’s residence in Obuasi.

Describing what happened, Aboagye’s mother said her daughter-in-law came to her home crying on Wednesday, asking her if the news she had heard about her husband was true.

Ajubi said she was not aware and later found out, leaving her devastated.

Both women could not hold back their tears as they mourned the loss of their beloved son and husband.

Muntaka Mubarak cries over helicopter crash

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Muntaka Mubarak broke down in tears after being informed of the death of eight people in the Sikaman Forest helicopter crash.

The Interior Minister and MP for Asawase was scheduled to be on the flight but was reportedly pulled off at the last minute by the Finance Minister, Ato Forson.
