Godfred Yeboah Dame, former Attorney-General (AG) and Minister for Justice, has threatened legal action against the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, over what he describes as a defamatory statement made against him.
In a letter dated March 12, 2026, the former AG, through the Dame and Partners law firm, said the minister made false and malicious claims against him when he appeared on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana show on October 10, 2025.

According to the letter, Kwakye Ofosu had claimed that during Dame's tenure as AG between 2021 and 2025, he deliberately ignored a report by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on alleged illegal mining (galamsey) activities involving Akonta Mining, a company owned by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dame says Felix's allegations are baseless.
However, in a report by Citi News, the former AG denied the allegations, insisting that no such report was presented to him while he was in office.
As a result, Dame described Kwakye Ofosu's allegations as baseless and damaging to his reputation.
He noted that during the programme, a co-panellist, Paul Adom-Otchere, challenged the claims and indicated that he had verified the facts, which showed that Dame was not aware of any such report.
To further support his point, the former AG referenced a Right to Information request filed by a private legal practitioner seeking clarification from the AG's office.
The response, dated December 22, 2025, reportedly confirmed that no docket on Akonta Mining was submitted to the Attorney-General’s office between 2022 and 2024.
It further stated that the only related docket was received on September 15, 2025, after Mr Dame’s tenure.
Godfred Dame consequently demanded a retraction and formal apology from the minister and the deletion of the alleged defamatory content from online platforms.
He contended that the statements made by Kwakye Ofosu falsely portrayed him as complicit in illegal mining and questioned his competence as Attorney-General. T
he former AG further added that the allegations had been widely circulated across media platforms, causing reputational harm.

Godfred Dame Storms CID HQ
YEN.com.gh previously reported that former Attorney General Godfred Dame arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra to respond to allegations made against him by Richard Jakpa.
In late September 2025, Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, filed a petition with the CID requesting an investigation into Godfred Dame over alleged misconduct.
Even before appearing before the CID, Godfred Dame had addressed the allegations during an earlier media interaction.
He stated that his suggestions to Jakpa about obtaining a medical certificate to delay court proceedings were made with clear intent, taking into account his busy schedule and Jakpa’s health concerns.
