Contractor Begs Road Minister Not to Terminate Contract During Public Confrontation

A tense exchange unfolded during an inspection of the Wenchi–Sawla road project, where a contractor publicly appealed to the Roads Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, not to terminate an ongoing contract.

The incident involved a representative of CIWE Engineering Ltd Ghana, the firm responsible for the rehabilitation works, following concerns raised about the pace and reliability of the project.

During the engagement, Kwame Agbodza indicated that he had lost confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver the project within the stipulated timeframe.

He reportedly questioned whether the company could complete the rehabilitation works within 24 months, citing concerns over progress on site.

In response, a contractor from CIWE Engineering Ltd Ghana made a direct and emotional plea to the minister, saying, “Honourable, we beg.”

The remark underscored the pressure on the construction firm as it faces the possibility of losing the contract.

The confrontation has raised questions about the future of the Wenchi–Sawla road project, a key infrastructure under the Big Push initiative expected to improve connectivity in the area.

It remains unclear whether the Road Minister will proceed with terminating the contract or grant the contractor additional time to address the concerns raised.
