Mahama Reshuffles Ministers, Names Zanetor Environment Minister, Adjei to Defence

• President John Dramani Mahama has announced a ministerial reshuffle, introducing changes to key government portfolios.
• Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been nominated as Defence Minister designate, while Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been appointed Environment Minister designate.

President John Dramani Mahama has undertaken a ministerial reshuffle, reassigning key portfolios and nominating new ministers for parliamentary approval.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, August 7, 2026, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who previously served as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, has been designated as Minister for Defence.

The President has formally communicated the changes to Parliament through the Speaker, in line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

As part of the reshuffle, Ahmed Ibrahim has been reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take over as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources.

President Mahama has also nominated Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP, as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Additionally, Mahama Ayariga has been nominated to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

All nominations are subject to vetting and approval by Parliament.

Zanetor lands Pan-African Parliament appointment

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings had been elected as the second vice president of the Pan-African Parliament.

The Korle-Klottey MP secured a major victory in an election held in South Africa on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings’ election to the new role represented a historic feat for the West African Caucus.
