Ghanaian referees beaten as violence rocks Edubiase-Proud United game
Class One Ghanaian referee, Anthony Mensah on Monday received some severe beatings of his life from some irate fans of Proud United, at the Swedru Park.
According to Starr FM report, the referee’s assistants, Stephen Alhassan and Philip Quansah were also not spared during their officiating duties at a football match between Proud United and New Edubiase United.

According to an eyewitness, the cause of the assault has not been identified but the referee was forced to end the game which was twelve minutes away from regulation time.
The eyewitness told Accra-based Starr FM that, supporters of Proud United unceremoniously jumped onto the football pitch and pounced on the center referee and his assistants.
The eyewitness narrated that the attack was so brutal that it took security officials close to an hour to calm tempers down.

This he said put New Edubiase at an advantageous position over the home team as they were leading by a lone goal.
He also added that officials of the Ghana Police Service have launched an investigations into the matter.
