The late Pele officially scored 757 goals in 831 matches and remains one of the greatest sportsmen to ever live. He won three World Cups with Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Pele's goal figure has been disputed, but FIFA places his number at 1,281 goals in 1,363 games, while the Guinness World Records say he scored 1,289 times in 1,363 matches, per GOAL.

4. Romario

The Brazilian legend scored 772 goals in 994 games between 1985 and 2007. He bagged five of those goals at the 1994 World Cup which his country Brazil won. Romario played 10 teams, including Barcelona and PSV

3. Josef Bican

Bican is a name that is always absent in modern football discussions, probably because he played in the 1930s and 40s. He scored more than 805 goals in over 500 appearances, mainly for Slavia Prague. Before Ronaldo and Messi, he was the all-time goal scorer in football history.

2. Lionel Messi

Messi and Ronaldo dominated European football for over a decade and went toe to toe when they played in Spain. The Argentine has scored 838 goals in 1069 matches. His best days were spent in Barcelona, where he won numerous trophies and awards. He led his country to the World Cup in 2022 and later won his eighth Ballon d'Or, cementing his status as one of the GOATS. some feel he became the GOAT after Qatar.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese icon has bagged 899 career goals in 1235 games, more than any other player. The Al-Nassr star has represented elite European clubs like Man United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Sporting Lisbon.

He has also scored 130 goals for his country, more than any other footballer, per UEFA. He recently said he is aiming for 1000 goals, which is possible if he stays healthy.

Ronaldo trolls Pele

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Ronaldo has set his sights on reaching 1,000 goals while subtly mocking Pele.

He highlighted that having video evidence of his goals provides him an edge over earlier legends who played before video documentation.
