Introduced in the mid-1980s, Air Jordans revolutionized the sport, especially in the NBA and are now a staple in streetwear culture.
Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan, the face of the brand, recently picked his favourite Jordan sneakers.
There are now 39 types of Air Jordan sneakers, but few have always topped rankings by revered publications.
In 1984, the six-time NBA champion signed a five-year endorsement deal with Nike, reportedly worth $2.5 million (plus royalties). It was a risky move, but it paid off handsomely, per Footlocker.
In the following years, as Jordan was busy becoming an icon in the sports world, Nike was releasing some of the most iconic Air Jordans.

A few years ago, Jordan picked his three favourite sneakers: the Air Jordan 11, Air Jordan 3, and Air Jordan 12 and 13, per Clutch Points.
Air Jordan 11 was released in 1995 and has colourways such as Concord, Space Jam, Bred, Columbia, and Cool Grey, per Sole Retriever.
The Air Jordan 3 was released in 1988 and remains one of the best sneakers around. Some of the best colourways are Black Cement, White Cement, and True Blue. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have worn them.
Finally, Air Jordan 12 was released in 1996, while Air Jordan 13 came out in 1997.
Michael Jordan played 15 years in the NBA and is regarded as the best basketball player in history.
