How Semenyo performed in 2026 World Cup qualifiers
Semenyo featured in both matches against Chad and Mali but endured a frustrating spell in front of goal.
His tireless running, powerful one-on-one ability, and pressing were evident, yet his finishing let him down.
Against Chad, he squandered several clear chances that could have sealed the contest.
See his chance against Chad:
The clash with Mali offered another opportunity, but he miscued a decent opening late in the first half.
Watch the missed opportunity:
Despite his struggles, Alexander Djiku’s scrappy strike early in the second half was enough to secure victory for Ghana and keep them top of Group I.
The forward will now return to Bournemouth, eager to rediscover his sharpness.
His first assignment comes against Brighton and Hove Albion on September 13, according to Flashscore.

Encouragingly, his club form has been far more productive. Semenyo has contributed to every goal the Cherries have scored in the Premier League this season.
He opened with a brace against Liverpool in a match marred by racist abuse, set up Marcus Tavernier’s winner against Wolves, and played a role in Evanilson’s strike that stunned Tottenham.
His performance has not gone unnoticed, earning him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month Award following his explosive start to the 2025/26 campaign.
The road to the award, however, will not be easy, as noted by Ghanasoccernet.
Semenyo faces competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Liverpool duo Hugo Ekitike and Dominik Szoboszlai, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Chelsea’s Joao Pedro, Everton’s Jack Grealish, and Arsenal’s Ricardo Calafiori.
For the striker, the hope is that his spark at club level can soon be replicated in national colours as Ghana edges closer to sealing World Cup qualification.
The Bournemouth star has contributed three goal involvements in as many games, including a brilliant brace against Liverpool.
